Hey Saloni, this is an awesome post! I remember having optimistic bias when I got laid off from my job last December. I felt like I could get another job instantly and didn’t realize just how long it would take. Even if I still had my old job and wasn’t the one laid off, I would still feel uneasy, thinking I could be next. Being proactive and building connections is always the way to go. Your newsletter is awesome by the way. Just subscribed! :)
Thank you! Yes, your experience is shared by many people. I read about the optimism bias and made the connection, wondering why even after hearing about the mass layoffs going on are people thinking that it wouldn't happen to them and are shocked when it does. Understanding the existence of a bias is the best way to mitigate its effects. Hence, the post. I am glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Christos! And also, thank you for talking about your personal experience. Most people don't know about the existence of the Optimism Bias even though we all suffer from it. I believe learning about it would help us be more cautious💙

Exactly, Saloni. Always great to stay prepared for each possible outcome. Keep up the great work! :)
Thank you!
Saloni, thank you for this!
I have been both a victim and a beneficiary of the Optimistic Bias.
I wouldn’t change who I am even if I could, but I’m wise enough to try and quit smoking regardless of my optimism.
And I’m lucky to be engaged to a woman with a healthy dose of skepticism.
Thank you Christos! And also, thank you for talking about your personal experience. Most people don't know about the existence of the Optimism Bias even though we all suffer from it. I believe learning about it would help us be more cautious💙
It’s so important to know you’re not broken in some way, that it’s like everything else in life, a matter of awareness and directed perception.
